Welcome to the Sensor Consortium’s home page!
The goal of the consortium is to promote and increase awareness of entrepreneurship and technology transfer activities on Long Island with a focus on national security and medical sensor systems.
Long Island, because of its defense industry past and large number of higher education institutions has been historically a hotbed for high tech industries. Currently, there are many resource centers from the State and Local governments and a tremendous amount of effort aimed at promoting entrepreneurial and technology transfer activities. However, most of this effort focuses on providing assistance to businesses and entrepreneurs. Not much is done to educate students on the concept of entrepreneurship.
A major and unique component of the Sensor
Consortium is our Education Component. For the first time, four of Long
Island’s campuses join forces to educate our students on technology
entrepreneurship. The Sensor Consortium’s Education Partners includes
Stony Brook University, Hofstra
University, Farmingdale State
College of Technology, and Suffolk
It is our vision that these three components are interlinked together to provide an infrastructure and a community to support each other. It is our goal that at the end of the two-year project period, through the many activities, faculty and students of the four Education Partners are all well aware of how a successful entrepreneur thinks and solves a problem. It is our vision that the consequence of such awareness will translate into more patents, more startup technology companies, and more research and development projects in national security and medical sensor systems on Long Island.
